My Partner is a direct boost to her stun power but it is the biggest one at that and with a relatively high Speed stat. It can be obtained in the regular FES banner so it’s not too hard to max out. Alternatives to this memoria are the Hard at Work! or the low rarity Puni for You!, both of which will also decrease her P.Atk stat allowing you to adjust your characters with more ease to target Ancestral Doctrines on magic attackers.
Of course, the free A Continuation of that Summer is also a fantastic budget choice for Ryza as for any other breaker.
If stunning enemies is not a problem, or if you are not aiming to stun enemies at all, you would do better equipping an on-hit debuffing memoria such as the extremely powerful Playing into Her Hand or the less recent Adventure to New Horizons for the reduced Slash resistances, matching very well with her short duration but powerful debuff centric kit. The former will only work against enemies with to Slash, a weakness Ryza has no problems creating for herself even against neutral enemies. The same way, The Scion of Arland will apply an extra increased damage taken debuff on enemies when hitting a weakness. This effect is much stronger than it seems and it comes attached to a very accessible R rarity memoria.
Unconditional buffing memorias like Our Masterpiece and To the Academy of Dreams! are also good choices, especially when equipped with Enhanced Damage Buff [A] traits. These are a lot more niche but functional nonetheless.
Moonlit Twin Stars
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by 9 ~ 12%. If equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by an additional 2 ~ 3%.
Debuff oriented item, boosting the potency of all her debuffs, including passive and items like Radiant Coronet. It is one of her strongest weapon when playing with non Slash teams, and even then it is pretty strong.
It slightly enhances her own breaking power as a result of enhancing her own pre-hit slash resistance debuff, but if not breaking enemies, it loses effectiveness due to no passive effect application.
Divinity’s Edge
While equipped to a Breaker with Slash affinity, after attacking, reduces target’s Slash resistance by 5 ~ 7% for 2 attacks.
Used exclusively when supporting a Slash type damage dealer, this weapon will add an extra Slash Resistance debuff to her kit. This effect will apply on all enemies hit and can stack up to twice. The reduction from this effect will make her own damage and stun damage stronger against enemies already afflicted by it, and it’s the strongest offensive contribution in Slash based teams.
Pointed Iron Staff
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, when attack target is stunned, boosts the skill damage of the ally with the highest P. ATK by 13 ~ 19% for 1 turn.
After successfully stunning an enemy, Ryza will apply a short buff on her highest P.Atk stat ally. This buff is affected by the Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait and its stun requirement is especially easy to meet with her forced break gimmick on her Burst Skill.
This effect is recommended to be used alongside the above mentioned trait and a buffing memoria for maximum benefits.
Beloved Sword
While equipped to a Breaker, boosts stun damage by 8 ~ 11% when attacking a weakness.
This weapon is recommended only for stun purposes when using Skill 2. Its condition is easy to meet for Ryza even against enemies that are neutral to Slash damage due to her Skill 2 applying a Slash Resistance debuff before the attack itself, making them weak to Slash.
Steel Bow
While equipped to a Breaker, boosts stun damage by 6 ~ 8%.
This weapon provides a slight boost to stun damage and has no special conditions required. It’s cheap to make and unlocked very early in the game, making it ideal for beginners without access to Beloved Sword or Helioprox.
Vowed White Kimono
While equipped to a Breaker with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by 11 ~ 15%.
Offensive oriented armor that will boost the potency of all her negative effects, including her Slash Resistance and damage vulnerability debuffs. This armor is better suited for assisting non-Slash type teams, but it works well with Slash teams when it’s paired with a weapon and accessory that can apply additional negative effects, to increase its effective value.
Vitality Shirt
While equipped to a Breaker with Slash affinity, after attacking, reduces target’s Slash resistance by 5 ~ 7% for 2 attacks.
This armor works exactly as the Divinity’s Edge sword, used exclusively when supporting a Slash type damage dealer, and adding an extra Slash Resistance debuff to her kit. This effect will apply on all enemies hit and can stack up to twice. The reduction from this effect will make her own damage and stun damage stronger against enemies already afflicted by it, and it’s one the strongest offensive contribution in Slash based teams.
The Soldier’s Cuirass is a weaker version of this armor, but it’s an event exclusive item that can be cheaper to make if you have many of the materials from this old event.
Charade Lumont
Boosts stun damage by 8 ~ 11% on attacks that hit all enemies.
This armor provides a moderate boost to all AoE attacks. Since Ryza’s Burst doesn’t need any type of boost to break an enemy, this is ideal to boost the stun damage of her Skill 2. It’s cheap to make, unlocked very early in the game and it holds relatively well into the end game, making it one of the best choices for beginners to synthesize.
Radiant Coronet
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after attacking, boosts enemy’s physical damage received by 5 ~ 6% for 2 attacks.
Intended to assist all kind of physical teams, this item applies an extra layer of increased physical damage taken with all her attacks. This effect can be boosted by increases to the potency of negative effects and, more surprisingly, by the Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait too, which could enable Ryza into a completely new build.
Vivid Scarf
While equipped to a Breaker with Slash affinity, after attacking, reduces target’s Slash resistance by 5 ~ 7% for 2 attacks.
Working exactly as the Divinity’s Edge and Vitality Shirt items, this accessory adds even more Slash Resistance debuffs to her kit. It also stacks up to two times and is more suitable to assist Slash teams exclusively. All these items combined with a similar memoria and her own Skill 2 effect make up for an absolutely massive reduction to Slash attribute resistance of all enemies in a single cast.
It belongs to the Extra category of recipes, therefore it has a very low SSR rate and has a low base Speed stat which can be a positive or a negative thing depending on your team composition.
Greed Ring
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts stun damage of attacks that target all enemies by 13 ~ 18%.
Ryza’s ultimate stun oriented accessory. It provides a massive boost to the stun damage of AoE skills and a large increase to her Speed stat.
Unfortunately, it’s quite expensive to synthesize and also locked behind Slash Affinity Tower progression so, if you still don’t have access to it or cannot afford it, cheaper and more accessible but weaker alternatives to it are Life Bangle, Bell of Disruption and Serenity Scarf.
Vowed Ornament
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after making a critical attack, boosts target’s critical damage received by 10 ~ 14% for 2 attacks.
This accessory is highly situational, requiring Ryza to land a critical hit over her enemies to apply the effect. It’s best used alongside characters like Wilbell: Witch in the Dark, to take advantage of her Critical panel, in fights that already include some of these panels themselves, or with other sources of Critical Rate buffs. Without these, the effect is very unreliable and not recommended to use.
The effect itself can stack up to twice and it’s equivalent to increasing the Critical Damage of other characters hitting this target, but this source is affected by increases to the potency of negative effects instead of the opposite.
Main Traits
- Skill 2 Stun Damage Boost is Ryza’s strongest trait. It affects only her Skill 2, of course, but her Burst doesn’t need any upgrades so this is fine. Aim to get this if possible, or just move to more traditional traits like:
- Stun Damage Up on Weakness is as strong as the first one and it’s relatively easy for Ryza to create the weakness she needs. I’d personally recommend building this trait over Physical Stun Damage Boost, but keep in mind it won’t do anything against enemies resistant to Slash. It is possible to combine this with Skill 2 Stun Damage Boost if you have Ryza: Brave Blaze.
- Physical Stun Damage Boost traits are her main source of stun damage, her primary role. This is a strong enough trait if you can’t get the others, and can have multiple of them.
Situational Traits
- Her second trait slot is a lot more flexible and can be filled by an additional Physical Stun Damage Boost or any of the mentioned above.
- The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait will affect any buff type effect on her gear and buffing memoria she has equipped. This is very strong and is the most ideal secondary trait to aim for if you are not aiming to break enemies instantly, or at all, or if using the Pointed Iron Staff + Burst combo on single bosses, where you will not need any Stun straits. It’s mostly overkill though and only needed for minmaxing damage.
- After the introduction of the Radiant Coronet accessory, the Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down is now open for Ryza to exploit. It can boost the base effect to more than double, for a very respectable physical damage boost that also can stack with itself. This trait is highly recommended if using this accessory. Without it, this trait is useless on her, so be careful.
- Ryza, as many other breakers, is a very frail character and can easily die to strong AoE attacks from enemies. The All-Target Attack Resistance Up can help with this in the secondary slot, reducing the damage she takes significantly against this type of attacks.
- The Stun Damage Boost [Full] trait is as strong as the Physical Stun Damage Boost one, but it will be complete inactive while her HP is not full. This is far from ideal and should be considered only as a last resort.
Ever since her release Ryza has been a staple of a breaker in the game. With a high Speed stat she is very flexible in what positions she can occupy in the turn order with just a change of accessory or memoria, allowing her to act first or fourth as her team requires her.
Her Skill 2 will damage and apply powerful slash resistance and damage vulnerability debuffs to all enemies at once, especially strong when assisting Slash affinity AoE damage dealers like Lara: Queen’s Grace, Logy: Alchemist of Dusk and Lanze: The Captain Awakens, but not restricted to this damage type or range alone. The damage vulnerability effect will boost all damage of any type from the follow up hit. Additionally, this skill will apply any on-hit effect on her gear, most notably pieces like Divinity’s Edge, Vitality Shirt, Radiant Coronet, Vivid Scarf and Vowed Ornament.
Her Burst was the first iteration of the forced break mechanic in the game, automatically guaranteeing a break on a single-target, under any conditions. This mechanic will likely never be obsolete, especially as enemies become harder to break, and is a very handful replacement in most if not all versions of Roman Tournament or even Affinity Towers 21+ if you don’t have another on-affinity breaker to perform the role.
Additionally, this Burst will apply a permanent 20% damage vulnerability debuff on the enemy that can stack up to 40% in total. This effect is a massive boost to all damage that never leaves and will stack with all her other debuffs.
All her attacks deal damage so she is a disruptive character that will conflict with other short duration debuffs from the team. Because of this, it’s best to pair her with characters like Escha: Sweet Monochrome or Klaudia: Fragrant Elegance, whose debuffs last for 2 hits. Purposefully making Ryza slower than Escha will ensure they will not clash against each other, letting your damage dealer take advantage of all their effects together.
Ryza has access to one of the strongest itemizations and team building options in the game, letting her act as a very offensive debuffer or even as a buffer, while retaining her main breaker role intact and, with the help of characters like Ryza: Blooming Energy, even gain access to the Initiative tool, a powerful effect that will let her act before any enemy or ally bypassing the normal turn orders, and unleashing some very fun and useful strategies.
