Rorona is a special support in many senses and she tends to play by slightly different rules. With a low base Speed stat, she has a slow start in all fights and from there there are two primarily ways to go forward based on her team and goals. You can either boost her Speed to as high as she can to increase her number of actions and facilitate her job at assisting allies other than just attackers, or keep her really slow, to focus only on one to three specific panels in a fight, taking a more controlled placement in the timeline.
Her high Speed alternatives include The True Feelings You Can’t See and It’s Time to Study!, with the former having an advantage in potency as she can feed allies Burst panels to exploit this effect better. Just make sure to determine who in your team is really going to take advantage of these panels before deciding.
Lower Speed memorias include the traditional A Future Worth Fighting For and Our Masterpiece as her primary choices for critical damage and skill damage respectively, and To the Academy of Dreams! as a Free memoria with even lower Speed that also matches her kit greatly.
There are other memorias like Dress-Up Outing! and The Tales We Weave that can work with her, especially when exploiting her own Burst Skill to buff an ally’s P.Atk stat or abusing enemy weaknesses with it, but I can’t in good faith add these to the list as their uses are really extremely limited.
Class President’s Cane
While equipped to a Supporter, after using a skill, boosts burst skill damage of the next ally in turn order by 9 ~ 12% for 1 turn.
One of Rorona’s strongest and most unique gear pieces but also one that can be difficult to use properly. This weapon is her best one for assisting magic attackers and sometimes even physical ones, but if used incorrectly this effect will effectively do nothing. It requires proper strategizing and understanding on the timeline to ensure the character taking advantage of this buff and her burst generation is your damage dealer. Recommended if you know what you are doing, and never so if generating bursts for allies other than your dps.
This bonus is affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Founder’s Boomerang
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, after using a skill, boosts all allies’ P. ATK by 5 ~ 6% for 1 turn.
Normally the strongest choice when supporting physical teams for Strike supporters, but this is not set in stone for Rorona. It still sits high in the list as it is a very strong option but its use strongly depends on her Speed and number of actions.
This bonus is NOT affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Forest Bell
While equipped to a character with Strike affinity, boosts potency of buff effects given by 9 ~ 12%.
Most of the times this is weaker than Founder’s Boomerang offensively, but it will impact all the buffs from her memoria, item effects and passive, at all times without needing to act. This is a viable choice when Rorona is slow.
Angel Staff
While equipped to a Supporter, after using a skill, boosts all allies’ critical damage by 4 ~ 5% for 1 turn.
One of the most versatile weapons in the game, this will work exactly as the Founder’s Boomerang, but buffing critical damage instead. This is obviously best used when supporting magic damage dealers but not as strong on her due to her inability to stack this effect many times.
This bonus is affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Carefree Swimsuit
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts potency of buff effects given by 7 ~ 10%.
Better buffs! Not much else to say. This bonus will affect all her stat boosting passives and gear effects. Best in slot for most situations.
Skuller Coat
Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.
Direct downgrade to Carefree Swimsuit, but still one of the most serviceable items to get early in the game. This armor can be used by any character and it will last a long time, but unfortunately it belongs to the Extra category, making it hard to obtain as SSR rarity.
Recommended for beginners.
Yukata of Warmth
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts all allies’ magic attack skill damage by 2 ~ 3%.
This armor adds a permanent passive boost to the magic skill damage of all allies. While small, it can be boosted by Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait and can be a great alternative for magic teams due to the passive nature of the effect.
Class President’s Ribbon
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, boosts all allies’ P. ATK by 5 ~ 6%.
Provides a moderate boost to all physical allies’ damage and her own heals too, always. This is a passive effect that’s always active and can be enhanced with increases to buff potencies. This item provides a much needed +12 Speed to Rorona and tends to be the superior choice in most situations when supporting physical teams.
Gluttony Ring
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, boosts potency of buff effects given by 13 ~ 18%.
The boosts granted by this ring are close to the ones given by Class President’s Ribbon, but it’s almost always still behind. For obvious reasons, this ring is better when supporting magic teams, but only if you need the +12 Speed given by it.
Flower Puni Charm
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, boosts all allies’ critical damage by 5 ~ 7%.
Instead of boosting stats, this item passively boosts critical damage of all allies. This is the strongest choice to support magic teams, as this critical damage boost is increased by the Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait. The only catch is that it provides less Speed, so there could be situations where you’d prefer not use it, but this is rare.
Main Traits
- Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is her most important trait when assisting attackers. This will affect her passive skill, her Skill 2 buff and any buffing item and memoria equipped.
Always look to have these traits at rank V, as even a rank IV is a massive loss.
Situational Traits
Her second trait slot is normally very niche, but in case of needing it:
- The All-Target Attack Resistance Up trait will add extra AoE mitigation to protect her. this is not bad when using her in affinity towers that are not Strike. She is already incredibly tanky but she will still need this for those situations.
- The Single Recovery Boost trait will substantially increase the healing done by her Skill 1, which can actually reach very high amounts and prove itself useful. This is great if you can get it, but not worth chasing or overspending mana for it.
- Her Skill 2 will generate a burst panel for the ally acting immediately after her. This has a ton of implications, and doesn’t necessarily mean it has to feed it to a damage dealer, which many players assume.
- Rorona can feed Bursts to other supporters for strong buff chains, like for example Rorona Skill 2 > Lydie Burst > Damage Dealer Burst, which would normally not be possible, getting the best of all 3 characters in a row.
- She can play a defensive role, giving bursts to strong defensive allies like Lydie: Witch of Rose, to chain party invulnerabilities one after another.
- On the offensive she can also provide panels to breakers, enabling massive damage setups with characters like Escha: Sweet Monochrome, or Ryza: Master’s Right-Hand to instantly stun any enemy and cheesing a lot of content very quickly.
- Obviously, feeding these panels to damage dealers directly is also an option, allowing certain characters to continue Burst chains uninterruptedly when they could not do it otherwise. The most clear example for this is Valeria: Warrior of Rose in Roman’s Tournament, as these fights normally have empty portions in the timeline specifically designed to interrupt Valeria from chaining non-stop, but Rorona can fix this.
- She is more than just a Burst generator. Her Burst is often overlooked by people but it is extremely strong, with a 2 hits All Resistance debuff and a massive P.Atk boost. This is not too great on magic teams, however.
- When generating Burst panels she is also buffing skill damage substantially to all allies. Even if you are generating a Burst on a panel that is already a Burst and this looks like the wrong move, you will still be gaining a large team buff.
- She has a skill damage passive that is active at all times too.
- She is very tanky against magic attacks, but very frail against physical ones.
- Her turn placement at the start of the fight is determined by her Speed, but most importantly by the Wait Time of her Skill 2. This is the case for all characters, most allies and enemies having a standard 200 Wait Time. Because Rorona has a 275 Wait Time, this almost always means she will be the last character acting no matter what, unless slower characters with 275 or higher wait time are present. There is currently no way to bypass this or Initiative effects affecting Rorona, and it’s designed this way to prevent her from feeding Burst Panels in turn 1 which would otherwise be insanely strong.
- Despite her 275 wait time, she will still act before broken enemies. Exceptions to this rule exist.
- Valeria: Radiant Summer is actually slower than Rorona, and has an even higher Wait Time. This will allow Rorona to feed Valeria a Burst in turn 1, with varied results.
- Because Rorona is almost guaranteed to act last, it’s pretty easy to target her first burst panel generation on top of any character you want. The first character that uses a Skill 1 at the start of the fight will automatically be placed after Rorona in her first turn. This is easy to replicate and can be abused in many ways. (See Video #1 for an example)
- Using Skill 1 on her first turn will also let her relocate in the timeline early. It’s common for her to jump over turns from allies with very high Speeds and placing herself behind slower allies instead, ready to provide panels. Playing and understanding how this works is critical to use her effectively.
