Lara can play 2 different roles, main damage dealer or debuff-support. The choice of memoria will exalt whatever role she will fulfill, so the decision is important.
As a damage dealer, by far the strongest choice is A Page in Friendship, massively boosting her burst skill damage and providing high P.Atk stat. The Promise of a Return is another choice very slightly weaker, providing her critical damage instead but a much lower P.Atk stat. This memoria has the advantage of being able to use the Enhance Damage Buff [A] trait instead of Critical Damage Up, but it strongly depends on how highly ranked up it is.
Other more traditional and easier to acquire memorias are Shoot for the Sky, Shippy, Set Sail!, and Lazy Afternoon, the latter only working against enemies weak to Slash.
In the team support/co-damage dealer department, her memoria of choice is Playing into Her Hand, massively reducing the slash resistance of all enemies she attacks on top of her own debuffs. There are other similar memorias like Adventure to New Horizons and Sprinkling Magic from the Sky, but they both pale in comparison.
Crystal Rod
While equipped to an Attacker, boosts potency of buff effects received by 11 ~ 15%.
Despite having a lower base P.Atk stat than other weapons, the sheer amount of extra buff values you can gain from all team members, battle items and all effects combined thanks to its effect will vastly outperform the margin.
Regardless, always consider what team you are playing, what battle items you are using and how much you are actually getting from this increase before picking it.
Blade Knuckle
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 13 ~ 18%.
Her strongest weapon when played as a main damage dealer when not playing around buffs or battle items. It tends to be weaker than Crystal Rod in most cases nonetheless.
Affects only her Burst Skill, which is her main source of damage.
Moonlit Twin Stars
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by 9 ~ 12%. If equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by an additional 2 ~ 3%.
Debuff oriented item, boosting the potency of effects from her Burst Skill and items like Radiant Coronet. It is her strongest weapon when playing a supporting role instead of damage dealer role, but only when using her Burst Skill.
Thorny Sigh
While equipped to an Attacker, after attacking, boosts targets’ damage received by 3 ~ 4% for 2 attacks.
Debuff oriented item, adding an extra debuff layer instead of improving other existing ones. It is weaker than Moonlit Twin Stars in the majority of scenarios, but when using Skill 2 this item is better.
Klinge Mähne
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts skill damage by 9 ~ 12%.
Placeholder weapon. Very cheap and easy to unlock is a great early game alternative but it will be quickly outdated by others.
Layered Velvet – Slash
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts potency of buff effects received by 13 ~ 18%.
Best in slot armor piece when played as a damage dealer. It adds up to a ton of offensive and defensive benefits when played with buffs from allies and battle items.
Radiant Plate
Boosts potency of negative effects inflicted by 6 ~ 8%.
Debuff oriented armor, enhancing the potency of all her negative effects, including those from gear pieces like Radiant Coronet or Thorny Sigh. Preferred to be used when assisting other characters instead of dealing damage herself.
Origin Necklace: Slash
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 17 ~ 25%.
Her strongest pure damage option, affecting only her Burst Skill. It only has +8 Speed, which might be insufficient for her in some scenarios.
Radiant Coronet
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after attacking, boosts enemy’s physical damage received by 5 ~ 6% for 2 attacks.
Intended to assist all kind of physical teams, this item applies an extra layer of increased physical damage taken with all her attacks. This effect can be boosted by increases to the potency of negative effects and, more surprisingly, by the Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait too.
Intended to be used as a supporting character instead of as a damage dealer.
Idaten‘s Boots
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 13 ~ 18%.
Weaker version of the Origin Necklace: Slash‘s same boost, but this time on a +12 Speed accessory. Sometimes worth the trade off.
Vowed Ornament
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after making a critical attack, boosts target’s critical damage received by 10 ~ 14% for 2 attacks.
This accessory is highly situational, requiring Lara to land a critical hit over her enemies to apply the effect. It’s best used alongside characters like Wilbell: Witch in the Dark, to take advantage of her Critical panels, in fights that already include some of these panels themselves, or with other sources of Critical Rate buffs. Without these, the effect is very unreliable and not recommended to use.
The effect itself can stack up to twice and it’s equivalent to increasing the Critical Damage of other characters hitting this target, but this source is affected by increases to the potency of negative effects instead of the opposite.
Main Traits
- As a main damage dealer, Burst Skill Power Up is your desired main trait. With her Burst Skill being her main source of damage, powering this up as much as we can is the call. Getting 3x of these is ideal.
Situational Traits
- Her second trait slot is a lot more nuanced and depends on a lot of factors, primarily her memoria chosen and role in the team:
- If playing as a damage dealer and we are equipped with any skill damage boosting memoria, we will build Critical Damage Up trait in 2x slots so balance out the excess. It is possible not to use any of this and only rely on teammates for this type of buff, but there will be a relatively major damage loss due to the imbalance.
- The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait will be the chosen trait if we end up using Promise of a Return, but always keep in mind how highly ranked up it is. If rank 4 or higher, this trait is ideal.
- Using additional Skill Power Up or similar traits is acceptable but, for the same reasons explained in bullet point 2, these are far from ideal.
- As last trait, only when played as a supporting character with Radiant Coronet equipped, Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait is usable. This is sort of questionable as the gains are not large enough to consider making specialized gear around it, but if you happened to have these pieces they are better than having nothing, turning the 6% physical damage received debuff into roughly 13%. Not bad.
- Lara is an extremely niche character. She tries to do a lot of things at once, which results in her not really excelling at anything.
- She can deal high AoE damage with her Burst Skill, comparable to, but still lower than pure Slash damage dealers like Logy: Alchemist of Dusk and Lanze: The Captain Awakens.
- Her second role is that of a disruption support. Increasing the damage her enemies take so other damage dealers can follow up, and at the same causing extreme disruption in enemy lines, paralyzing them, disabling their actions and delaying them. She has a ton of control over the fight, but this makes her relatively hard to play effectively.
- Her Burst Skill effect is the most interesting in her kit. The Royal Majesty is categorized as a status effect, and cannot miss, be resisted or protected against. This effect is guaranteed to land on all enemies and has a lot of implications for character that rely on the presence of these effects to deal damage or trigger their own, on fights that normally have too many resistances and immunities.
- The Royal Majesty effect is guaranteed to land, but the disabling effect only has a 40% chance of triggering and also cannot be resisted. It works essentially the same the Paralysis or Daze effects, but by comparison Paralysis only has 20% trigger rate.
- Speaking of Paralysis, she also inflicts enemies with this status effect with an 80% chance, but this one can be resisted or protected against normally.
- Her Skill 2 can cause delay on enemies when at full charges. This is mostly an utility tool and can be used in a controlled manner to properly deal with a specific enemy or timeline.
- Her Skill 1 has an abnormally high potency, almost doubling that of other regular damage dealers. This can be a very efficient way to deal with smaller enemies or to finish them off.
- The healing and buffing effect from her second passive skill can only trigger once per turn, regardless of how many enemies she kills in a single one. The All Recovery Boost trait affects this healing, but we entering in meme territory here.
- The 50% all damage received debuff from her Burst Skill is absurdly powerful, and can be stacked twice even. It is affected by potencies of negative effects too and it is not capped. She can setup this debuff for others, or for her own successive turns. Non disruptive characters and supports play amazingly with her.
