It’s rare for the Promise of a Return memoria to be eclipsed by another memoria offensively, but I’d say this is one of those. The Kitty Cuteness Overload! is weaker, offering less M.Atk and lower critical damage by comparison, but offering more Speed. While this might not seem much, this small margin of Speed is what allows Resna to act before many enemies in regular content, and regular content is where she shines the most, with fast 1 turn sweeps not allowing enemies to act or protect themselves. The small difference in power is almost meaningless for these purposes. And yes, Resna is not great in Roman’s Tournament, so the lower Speed strategies don’t suit her that well.
Both these memorias benefit tremendously from the Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait built on Resna.

Another interesting and unique choice on her is Origin of Alchemists, a memoria that can almost double the buffs granted by panels received. Resna excels when using double boost panels so this is not rare for her to accomplish, almost doubling the 88% bonus from both panels to 160%. This is even stronger when using Boost+ panels, potentially turning this into a 400% skill damage boost. And if you add Klaudia: Fragrant Elegance‘s Burst Skill effect on top… let’s say you will double that number again.

Less attractive choices but still good enough are Endless Discoveries and A Time Just for Two, both providing basic skill damage buffs but with the former not having any conditions attached, and the latter being much more easily accessible. Both share the same potencies at the end.

For starters or players with no access to anything of the above, always prioritize equipping a 31.25% M.Atk memoria regardless of its effect. If you still don’t have any of these, the SR rarity Following in Your Footsteps memoria is a great starting option. with moderately high M.Atk and a small boost to magic skill damage.

Resilient New Students’ Staff

While equipped to a character with Air affinity, when using boost-type panels, boosts own critical damage by 25 ~ 36% for 1 turn.

This effect has no cap, is affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait and buff received potencies, and also can stack if activating two of these panels in a single turn. All this considered, this item can provide from a not small 36% to more than 200% critical damage depending on the number factors mentioned in play. More info on this in the overview section.

Crystal Rod

While equipped to an Attacker, boosts potency of buff effects received by 11 ~ 15%.

Despite having a lower base M.Atk stat than other weapons, the sheer amount of extra buffs you can gain from all team members, battle items and all effects combined thanks to its effect will vastly outperform MOST other weapons. Unlike essentially the entire roster of attackers, this is weaker than a fully boosted Resilient New Students’ Staff effect.

Lofty Longsword

Boosts skill damage by 12 ~ 17% when attacking a target’s Air weakness.

Big boost to M.Atk and skill damage, but only against enemies weak to Air, which is usually enabled by her allies. This weapon is decently strong, but completely outclassed by both items above.

Spirit Staff – Air

While equipped to a character with Air affinity, boosts skill damage by 7 ~ 10%.

The most budget possible alternative for beginners, offering a moderate skill damage boost without conditions. It’s very cheap and easy to unlock but should be replaced as soon as possible.

Colorless Robe

While equipped to an Attacker with Air affinity, boosts potency of buff effects received by 16 ~ 23%.

Hands down the strongest piece of gear Resna can wear. This armor will not only boost her own self buffs but everything she receives, from battle item buffs, memoria effects, party members’ buffs, her own passives and, most importantly, the effect from Resilient New Students’ Staff. It’s also not expensive to make and unlocked only in chapter 8 of the main story, so there is no reason not to use one.

Silver Thread Armor

Boosts potency of buff effects received by 9 ~ 12%.

A direct downgrade from Colorless Robe. It’s much weaker and much, much harder to craft because it’s an Extra category recipe. Aside from that one armor, it’s still stronger than anything else she can equip, which is a testament to the power of increases to buffs received.

Resilient New Students’ Uniform

While equipped to an Attacker with Air affinity, boosts skill damage of attacks that target all enemies by 11 ~ 16%.

Being weaker than the items above, this uniform still offers a strong damage boost that affects both of Resna’s main skills. It’s a decent alternative if you can’t get the others.

Light Vest

While equipped to an Attacker or Breaker, boosts M. ATK by 6 ~ 8%.

Stat boosts are much stronger than skill damage or critical boosts, but they have fallen slightly out of favor because of buff potency pieces. This is still a solid piece of gear, but use it as a last alternative only.

Lofty Pocket Mirror

While equipped to an Attacker with Air affinity, boosts skill damage by 5 ~ 7% when using panels. (MAX 35%)

This accessory has an intended slow start, permanently increasing in power as the wearer lands on boost-type panels. The trick in this is Resna absolutely needs to be played around these panels anyway, and the effect itself is boosted by Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait. This trait doubles the effect gained per panel with just 2x traits, going from 7 to 14% per activation. When using double panels, which is something she aims to do always, the benefit increases to 28% out of the max 35%, in a single turn. Now if you add the buff received bonus from her armor, this effect is almost instantly maxed out without you having to do anything out of the ordinary, and surpassing most effects from most other accessories.
It also has great Speed stat.

Blue Puni Charm

While equipped to a character with Air affinity, boosts own skill damage by 13 ~ 18% when own HP is 70% or higher.

Another very powerful accessory, potentially offering slightly more damage than Lofty Pocket Mirror, but with an HP condition attached which is not always possible to keep up. It’s a trade-off of a marginal power gain versus coziness.
This item belongs to the Extra category of recipes, making it very hard to get as an SSR rarity item.

Main Traits

  • Skill Power Up and Skill 2 Power Up traits offer essentially the same bonus buff, except the latter has a higher value and does not affect Resna’s Burst Skill. This is normally not a concern since Resna will not be using bursts too much, but this trait is currently not possible to be matched with Enhanced Damage Buff [A], making regular Skill Power Up trait a more comfy choice.
  • Ideally you should get at at least 4 of these traits across her 6 trait slots, for a total of 100% Skill Power. Going above this will reduce the effective value of the trait, but going below will be a much more drastic drop in damage. In general, you almost never want less than 100%.

Situational Traits

  • The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait is by far her strongest choice, but this is ONLY if you have access to a high ranked critical damage memoria like Kitty Cuteness Overload! or  Promise of a Return. 2x of this trait will double the critical damage given by this memoria and most importantly will double the critical damage provided by the Resilient New Students’ Staff effect and the skill damage given by her own passive. Picking this trait, regardless, depends almost exclusively on her memoria equipped.
  • Critical Damage Up is the most basic and most functional secondary trait to build. It works great in any conditions and doesn’t require much min maxing or thoughts. You only want a maximum of 2x of these.
  • Resna is a character that’s impossibly easier to use with absurd levels of power hidden in her main kit and gearing options. Her passive skill matched with the effect from Resilient New Students’ Staff provides massive amounts of buffs, all of which can be increased by buff bonuses and traits.
  • She depends strictly on the use of boost-type panels to work properly. This not only will give her the respective buffs, but also activate her weapon effects and passive, and provide her with guaranteed critical hits on her Skill 2.
  • Matching her with boost panel generators like Saskia: Master of Alchemy or Sophie: Mighty Boss, and battle items like Student Support Red Jelly will practically guarantee her favorable conditions.
  • If none of those options is available, she can create her own follow-up boost panels by using her Skill 1, especially when used during her first turn.
  • Using the Student Support Red Jelly battle item while standing on a Boost-type panel, will let her activate the effect twice, effectively doubling all the bonuses.
  • The guaranteed critical rate given to her Skill 2 by landing on these Boost-type panels only lasts during the same turn she landed on them. If using battle items (therefore moving the timeline 1 space) results in Resna moving out of this panel, she will lose the critical rate benefit, but the skill damage and critical damage bonuses gained will remain. This is another strong reason to always bring 1 copy of Student Support Red Jelly when playing her.
  • She cannot be affected by negative effects from panels. That includes all red-icons, including damage down and weakness. This makes her really easy to use and just ignore those pesky rotation-ruining panels that sometimes show up.
  • She is still affected by status effects inflicted by panels, and by negative effects inflicted by enemies.
  • Her passive effect cannot stack, but it is not capped, meaning you can’t gain this effect more than once per turn (in case you activated 2 panels in 1 turn), but the skill damage bonus can be boosted by traits and gear effects to an indefinite amount.
  • Her Leader Skill is extremely powerful and almost always be and should be used when playing her not only for the offensive power gained but also the defenses.
  • If using battle items  to move from boost-type panel to another in the timeline, she can trigger the effect of Resilient New Students’ Staff twice in a single turn. With the right traits and buff potency boosts from her gear, she can turn this buff to over 200% total.
  • Float Ring panels created by Valeria: Radiant Summer are categorized as Boost-type panels, so they can trigger all of Resna’s effects. Not only that, but this will also convert the original 40% skill damage gained per regular panels to 100% critical damage per panel instead.
  • Her Burst Skill, while powerful, it’s rarely used because it does not have the guaranteed critical properties her Skill 2 does, and it requires a Burst panel to use, which halves all the potential bonuses she can normally gain from a regular boost panel.
