The Promise of a Return memoria is her strongest memoria. With the highest M.Atk stat and up to a ridiculous 100% critical damage, you won’t need anything else but keep in mind this memoria will drastically lower her Speed stat. Since Marie’s Speed is decently high, she can carry this mostly unhindered but if not, an alternative to deal with this issue for regular content is Dressed for Success, with slightly lower M.Atk and critical damage, but higher Speed.
Any of these memorias, at a high enough rank (usually rank 4+) will enable Marie to use the Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait in her gear, outperforming normal Critical Damage traits and also enhancing the effects from her Skill 1 and other gear pieces, while also potentially boosting her buffs to other Attackers in the team.
Great options among the newest additions, Under the Summer Sky, with You is a traditional and unconditional skill damage based memoria for Bolt affinity, while Endless Discoveries, remains relevant working well with any magic attacker.
If a more budget alternative is what you need, you can’t go wrong with A Time Just for Two, a basic memoria obtainable in the regular FES pool from the start of the game with the same buff than previous two memorias but with the condition of being over 70% of Marie’s Max HP.
All these memorias are strong and highly functional, but will require to build up to 2x Critical Damage Up traits on her gear to compensate later on in the mid game.
Because Marie works better as a co-damage dealer instead of a main damage dealer, she performs great with buffing options as well. Rare memorias like the free Destined by the Stars are unique to her class, but traditional memorias like Our Masterpiece and To the Academy of Dreams! do just as fine too. These effects will also affect herself so she can remain strong within her role.
For starters or players with no access to anything of the above, always prioritize equipping a 31.25% M.Atk memoria regardless of its effect. If you still don’t have any of these, the SR rarity Following in Your Footsteps memoria is a great starting option. with moderately high M.Atk and a small boost to magic skill damage.
Midsummer Fish Sword
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, boosts potency of buff effects received by 16 ~ 23%.
Undisputed best weapon to equip, providing high base M.Atk stat and a ridiculous effect boosting every single buff she receives, including her own gear and those provided by allies. This will completely outclass any other weapon effect by a large margin when used as a main damage dealer.
Tome of Answers: Bolt
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, boosts critical damage by 20 ~ 28%.
Very strong weapon, originally the best in slot but now outclassed by Midsummer Fish Sword. It’s her strongest alternative if you don’t have access to the fish, offering a big boost to M.Atk and critical damage to complement her kit.
Water God’s Scythe
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, boosts skill damage by 14%. Boosts all Family & Friends allies’ M. ATK by 5%.
Event exclusive UR weapon, with fixed effects and traits. This is a very strong weapon but not better than the ones above. It’s fantastic for beginners, if you managed to get it while the event was up. It’s not obtainable outside of it.
Elemental Breath – Bolt
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, boosts skill damage by 9 ~ 12%.
This is a basic but strong weapon unlocked fairly early in the game. It has no conditions other than being a Bolt Attacker, therefore it can be shared later on with similar characters. The effect is moderate and the weapon has a standard 20 ~ 45 M.Atk, so it’s really just an entry level piece that holds well into middle stages of the game and works perfect to clear Bolt Tower. It also affects all her skills, which is ideal budget-wise compared to Tonnelash or Wooden Staff which both have conditions on them despite being stronger.
Silver Thread Armor
Boosts potency of buff effects received by 9 ~ 12%.
Bolt affinity still doesn’t have an affinity exclusive version of this armor so this is still the better choice. It’s hard to craft because it’s an Extra category recipe, unfortunately. Aside from that, it’s still stronger than anything else she can equip, which is a testament to the power of increases to buffs received.
Adventurer’s Garb
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, boosts critical damage by 17 ~ 24%.
Massive boost to critical damage, active at all times. It’s also enhanced by any Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait she could have equipped. It’s a great item but outclassed by Silver Thread Armor when in presence of many buffs and battle items.
Light Vest
While equipped to an Attacker or Breaker, boosts M. ATK by 6 ~ 8%.
Stat boosts are much stronger than skill damage or critical damage boosts, but they have fallen slightly out of favor because of buff potency pieces. This is still a solid piece of gear and it’s easy to unlock and craft, but use it as a last alternative only.
Thunder Armor
While equipped to a character with Bolt affinity, after attacking, boosts enemy’s damage received by 4 ~ 5% for 2 attacks.
Her main piece of armor when playing as a support or co-damage dealer. This debuff oriented armor will apply a handy and moderately strong debuff on all enemies hit. It’s easy and cheap to craft and very easy to use and stack with itself. Highly recommended in this role.
Origin Necklace: Bolt
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 17 ~ 25%.
Massive boost to her burst skill damage, this is the strongest and safest choice for her main source of damage alone.
Memoria Bracelet
While equipped to a character with Bolt affinity, boosts critical damage by 14 ~ 20%.
Relatively decent option with a good boost affecting all her skills and high speed.
Celestial Talisman
While equipped to an Attacker with Bolt affinity, after attacking, boosts target’s magic attack damage received by 6 ~ 8% for 2 attacks.
Her main accessory in the support or co-damage dealer role, but only when assisting magic type damage dealers. A +12 Speed item with a great debuff added to her skill hits. This debuff is affected by Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait, which is something she can build in this role if you really want, although the effect is relatively small and not worth it most of the times.
Main Traits
As a main damage dealer:
- Burst Skill Power Up is her ideal main damage dealer trait, with her Burst being her primary source of damage. Having 3 of these is ideal in this role.
As a support or co-damage dealer:
- Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is her primary trait in this role. This trait will boost the potency of her critical damage buffs applied on other Attacker allies, and will also boost them for herself, reducing the amount of Skill 2 casts needed to cap her effects and enhancing the value of her equipped memorias and especially her Skill 1.
Situational Traits
As a main damage dealer:
- Her second trait slot can include additional Skill Power Up traits or some of the next ones:
- Critical Damage Up is the most basic and most functional secondary trait to build. It works great in any conditions and doesn’t require much min maxing or thoughts. You only want a maximum of 2x of these for general content.
- The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait can be used as a main damage dealer too but it’s ONLY good if you have access to a high ranked critical damage memoria like Promise of a Return or Dressed for Success. 2x of this trait will double the critical damage given by this memoria and the critical damage buffs given by her own kit and any similar piece of gear she has. If you don’t have this memoria or not at a high enough rank, this trait is not worth using. Additionally, 2x of these traits will let her fully stack the critical damage from her Skill 2 in just two actions instead of five.
- Bolt Damage Boost and Magic Damage Boost are ok traits to have early and mid game, but they are much weaker compared to anything above so do not over invest in these and simply use them as stepping stones to reach better traits later on.
As a support or co-damage dealer:
- The Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait will boost the effect of her Celestial Talisman. That’s all this trait does. It’s a heavy investment for a relatively small gain so don’t overdo it if you don’t need to.
- Very misunderstood character, not meant to be the strongest Attacker or the strongest buffer, but doing a little of both.
- She performs way above average when played as a main damage dealer and can assist her own supports with Burst panels so they can assist her back.
- She is very fun to play and has solid stats all around to fulfill any role.
- She is not terribly strong in the supporting role due to being a highly disruptive character that will remove enemy debuffs with her hits. She acts mostly as a critical rate buffer only, whereas true supporting allies with better gear choices generally do a better job.
- Her Skill 1 is a massive setup tool fr her own damage, especially when paired with Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait.
- All buffs in her Skill 2 are permanent so she can be played with buff potency effect items to reduce number of casts, and then die to make space for more ally turns. All effects will remain active.
- The built-in critical damage in her Burst Skill is not a buff and it’s directly added to the skill modifier. It cannot be boosted or reduced by any means.
- The Burst generation effect on her own Burst has insane chain potential starting turn 6 of a fight. It’s imperative for her to take over the first Burst panel of the fight to start creating panels for others. Proper Skill 1 usage from Marie and her Co-Attacker is crucial for this to work.
- Her Burst Skill needs to deal a critical hit to create the panel or the effect won’t happen.
- Her first passive skill boosts the potency of damage buffs alone, including all skill damage and critical damage related buffs. It doesn’t interact with boosts to defensive type buffs or stat buffs.
- Her second passive boosts potency of all positive panels on the other hand, including Protection panels.
- Both passive can stack, increasing the potency of Boost type panels by 50% in total, additive to other sources and panel boost modifiers.
- Her Leader Skill is a tremendous damage boost for many offensive allies, including all alts forms of Ryza, Resna, Izana and others.
- Her Synthesis Gift is extremely good and grossly overlooked. She is the only Skill Power Up crafter with a Green right side, the only one who can link to Corneria: No Milk No Life to then link with the Summertime Shell material. These three things together are the perfect combo to create items with the Skill Power Up + Enhanced Damage Buff [A] traits combined.
