The Promise of a Return memoria is Rorona’s ultimate memoria. With the highest M.Atk stat and up to a ridiculous 100% critical damage this is the strongest damage boost she can get. Just keep in mind this memoria will drastically lower her Speed stat making her even slower than she already is, which is a relatively positive thing in some contents, and when using Initiative effects. An alternative to deal with this issue is Dance into the New Year, with slightly lower M.Atk and critical damage, but higher Speed. Any of these memorias, at a high enough rank (usually rank 4+) will enable Rorona to use Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait in her gear for great results.
Skill damage alternatives include Smiles Brighter than the Sun, a memoria that only works against enemies weak to Ice which Rorona cannot create for herself, effectively forcing her to play exclusively against these enemies or rely on teammates. Starbirth Festival Night and Endless Discoveries on the other hand are both effectively identical on her and have no conditions attached but provides a slightly smaller bonus. Additionally, her signature Time Just for Two memoria provides the exact same bonus than the previous two, requiring her to be over a certain amount of HP, which aligns with her Skill 2 condition, something you should strive to fulfill at all times.
Using any of these will most likely require you to add 2x Critical Damage Up traits to hear gear to compensate.
For starters or players with no access to anything of the above, always prioritize equipping a 31.25% M.Atk memoria regardless of its effect. If you still don’t have any of these, the SR rarity Following in Your Footsteps memoria is a great starting option. with moderately high M.Atk and a small boost to magic skill damage.
Crystal Rod
While equipped to an Attacker, boosts potency of buff effects received by 11 ~ 15%.
Despite having a lower base M.Atk stat than other weapons, the sheer amount of extra buffs you can gain from all team members, battle items and all effects combined thanks to its effect will vastly outperform them.
Regardless, always consider what team you are playing, what battle items you are using and how much you are actually getting from this increase. If you are not playing around buffs, then the Tome of Answers: Ice could be better.
Tome of Answers: Ice
While equipped to an Attacker with Ice affinity, boosts critical damage by 20 ~ 28%.
Big boost to M.Atk and critical damage. This weapon is immensely strong, but now slightly outclassed by Crystal Rod in almost every scenario. If you don’t have access to it though, this is your weapon.
Fortune Staff
While equipped to an Attacker, boosts critical damage of single-target attacks by 17 ~ 24%.
Direct downgrade to Tome of Answers: Ice, providing a weaker effects and less M.Atk, but being much more accessible and cheaper to make. Solid alternative.
Sunshine Fishing Rod
While equipped to a character with Ice affinity, boosts skill damage by 12 ~ 17% when attacking a weakness.
Decent item with a good boost to skill damage but only when attacking enemies weak to Ice. Rorona cannot create this weakness for herself, so she will rely on teammates to do so, or use this exclusively in these types of fights.
Outclassed by items above but still a usable weapon.
Cold Hammer
While equipped to an Attacker with Ice affinity, after using a skill, boosts own M. ATK by 2 ~ 3% for 2 turns and boosts own M. DEF by 2 ~ 3% for 2 attacks.
Unlocked relatively early in the game, this ramp up effect is intended to be weak at the start and become strong as the fight progress, making the user hit harder and become bulkier against magic attacks.
Silver Thread Armor
Boosts potency of buff effects received by 9 ~ 12%.
Ice affinity does not have an Ice exclusive buff potency armor (at least for now) so the next best thing to use is this. Despite the reduced value, it’s still much stronger than any direct effect she can get from other options, all things considered.
Strife Shirt
While equipped to an Attacker with Ice affinity, boosts skill damage by 5 ~ 6% and critical damage by 9 ~ 12%.
It’s rare that an armor (or any piece) provides both types of boosts. This armor is really strong for how cheap it is to make, and something to consider if that elusive Silver Thread Armor doesn’t happen.
Daylight
While equipped to an Attacker with Ice affinity, after using a skill, boosts own M. ATK by 5 ~ 6% for 2 turns.
Stat boosts are much stronger than skill damage or critical boosts, but they have fallen slightly out of favor because of buff potency pieces. This is still a solid piece of gear, and can be unlocked early in the game.
Origin Necklace – Ice
While equipped to an Attacker with Ice affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 17 ~ 25%.
The biggest boost Rorona can get, but only for her Burst Skill. As a slow character, it’s not hard to play a team dedicated to push Rorona into these panels so this item tends to be the best choice to boost her powerful Burst.
Fancy Ring
While equipped to an Attacker with 70% or higher HP, after attacking, boosts own skill damage by 11 ~ 16% for 1 turn.
Strong choice for Rorona as it affects both her skills, but with an HP condition attached. This condition matches her Skill 2 condition so it’s ideal for this skill use. It’s an extra category recipe unfortunately, so it’s hard to make.
Orphic Ring: Ice
While equipped to an Attacker with Ice affinity, boosts skill damage by 9 ~ 12%.
Good budget alternative for beginners. This item is strong enough to carry you early and mid game. It’s cheap and easy to unlock too.
Main Traits
- Skill Power Up and Single Attack Power Up traits offer essentially the same boost. They both affect all her Skills so just pick whatever option is easier to get for you.
- Burst Skill Power Up is also solid. They provide a 30% boost in comparison versus the regular 25%, but at the price of only affecting her Burst Skill.
- Ideally you should get at at least 4 of these traits across her 6 trait slots, for a total of 100% Skill Power. Going above this will reduce the effective value of the trait, but going below will be a much more drastic drop in damage. In general, you almost never want less than 100%.
Situational Traits
- Her second trait slot can include additional Skill Power Up traits or ideally some of the next ones:
- The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait is ONLY good if you have access to a high ranked critical damage memoria like Promise of a Return or Dance into the New Year. 2x of this trait will double the critical damage given by this memoria and the skill damage buffs given by her Burst Skill and any buff from gear she has. If you don’t have this memoria or not at a high enough rank, this trait is not worth using.
- Critical Damage Up is the most basic secondary trait to build. It works great in any conditions and doesn’t require much min maxing or thought. You only want a maximum of 2x of these.
- Ice Damage Boost and Magic Damage Boost are ok traits to have early and mid game, but they are much weaker compared to anything above so do not over invest in these and simply use them as stepping stones to reach better traits later on.
- Rorona is a free character given to all players the first time they login to the game.
- Despite being free, she has extremely good offensive stats and high potency skills. Her only downside is being really, really slow. This can be both a good and a bad thing, although at the start of the game tends to be negative.
- The damage of her Skill 2 will be drastically increased while her HP is above 70%. While she has ways to sustain her own HP, due to her low Speed she will often rely on teammates to protect her or heal her. Without this boost, this skill still has a very high base potency, and with it active is way above the average potency of a Skill 2.
- Her Burst has a similar potency boost but this time when the enemy is afflicted by any form of Received Damage Up negative effect. There are countless ways to inflict this, from memorias like The Scion of Arland equipped on allies, allies with Thunder Armor or Frost Armor, and many many other items and character skills, including her own Skill 1. As long as any form of this debuff is on the target, the Burst potency will be boosted. The heal part of the skill is unconditional and will always occur.
- Speaking of her Skill 1, this skill will apply the Received Damage Up effect twice on the target. While the potency seems identical, they are very different debuffs. One of them will last for two hits, the normal for this of debuffs. The second one, however, will last for 2 turns. This is the only form of Received Damage Up effect in the entire game that has a turn duration, meaning it will not be consumed with hits and can stack indefinite amount of times as long the target doesn’t get turns.
- Received Magic Damage Up and Received Physical Damage Up debuffs will not count towards boosting the damage of the skill. Only the generic form will.
- 20% received damage up from a single cast of her Skill 1 is not a small boost. In the early game this can be a massive damage boost so it is almost always recommended to setup this skill before going for a big attack.
- This skill can also let her work as a support-ish character or co-damage dealer quite well.
- The Promise & Teamwork tag is excellent for her to take the offensive, giving her sources of Initiative effect with Izana: Dragon’s Bride, supers stat boosts with Marie: Violent Beauty and even status effect applications with Johanna: Battle Phenom.
