Empel’s role is only that of a stat buffer. With that in mind, the best memoria he can equip to elevate that role is Dress-Up Outing!, increasing the potency not only of Skill 2 buff, but also his passive skill and all P.Atk buffs from his gear effects. The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] does not affect any of these stat buffs, so this is his best choice.
Alternatively, he can equip a more traditional buffing memoria instead, including A Future Worth Fighting For and Our Masterpiece as his primary choices for critical damage and skill damage buffs; It’s Time to Study! and The True Feelings You Can’t See for high speed alternatives, and finally To the Academy of Dreams!, a Free memoria with the lowest Speed. All these memorias are interchangeable and you should always pick the one you have ranked up the most, if the Speed provided matches his needs. All these memorias will be affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Founder’s Boomerang
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, after using a skill, boosts all allies’ P. ATK by 5 ~ 6% for 1 turn.
Empel’s strongest choice when he is geared to be fast and his damage dealer is slow, or if the timeline requires him to use his Skill 1 often. This will allow him to stack the effect multiple times for a stronger ally follow up turn.
This bonus is NOT affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Forest Bell
While equipped to a character with Strike affinity, boosts potency of buff effects given by 9 ~ 12%.
Most of the times this is weaker than Founder’s Boomerang offensively, but it will impact all the buffs from his memoria and passive as well, increasing all party stats very slightly. If Empel is supporting fast acting characters like Valeria: Warrior of Rose, or if he is going to purposefully die during the fight, this weapon is ideal as its effect will stay active at all times no matter what.
Steel Staff
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts potency of buff effects given by 7 ~ 10%.
A direct downgrade to Forest Bell, but more accessible for starters. It’s also not affinity locked, so it can be shared with other supports.
Carefree Swimsuit
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts potency of buff effects given by 7 ~ 10%.
Better buffs! Not much else to say. This bonus will affect all his stat boosting active and passives effects, and gear effects such as Founder’s Boomerang. Best in slot for most situations.
Skuller Coat
Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.
Direct downgrade to Carefree Swimsuit, but still one of the most serviceable items to get early in the game. This armor can be used by any character and it will last a long time, but unfortunately it belongs to the Extra category, making it hard to obtain as SSR rarity.
Recommended for beginners.
Class President’s Ribbon
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, boosts all allies’ P. ATK by 5 ~ 6%.
Provides a moderate boost to all physical P.Atk, always. This is a passive effect that’s always active and can be enhanced with increases to buff potencies. This item provides +12 Speed to him and tends to be the superior choice in most situations.
Gluttony Ring
While equipped to a Supporter with Strike affinity, boosts potency of buff effects given by 13 ~ 18%.
The boosts granted by this ring are quite close to the ones given by Class President’s Ribbon, but it’s almost always still behind.
Main Traits
- Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is his most important main trait, and his only usable main trait at all. Despite not affecting his stat boosting buffs, it can still affect his Skill 1, reducing the number of casts need to cap this effect from 3 to even just 1 (combined with buff potency effects). It also affects the physical skill damage provided by his Burst Skill and, of course, any buffing memoria he could have equipped.
- Despite not being absolutely necessary to use this trait, it’s always recommended to have 3 of them.
Situational Traits
- He doesn’t have a secondary role, so all his secondary traits are almost useless. There are some that stand out, regardless, but they are all defensive choices to make himself bulkier.
- The All-Target Attack Resistance Up trait will add extra AoE mitigation to protect him. This is not bad when using him in Stab and Slash affinity towers where he will be punished.
- Racial type traits to reduce the damage he receives from enemies from Aquatic, Beast or Bird races will find a niche in certain fights, like Roman’s Tournament, and some Item Wars event when he can act as a pseudo tank.
- Empel only works for assisting physical teams, but he has a secured spot in all of them due to the sheer power of his buffs.
- Stat buffs, when added into the mix, are normally much, much stronger than regular skill damage or critical damage buffs.
- The effect from his Skill 1 is permanent and, with the right gear, can be capped in a single cast. Doing this at least once during the fight is recommended, but for short fights it can be ignored.
- The buff from his Skill 2 lasts 2 turns and can be stacked indefinitely. When assisting slow allies, it’s not rare for Empel to be able to stack this 3 times. In multi-wave content and with a proper strategy, this can be stacked even more.
- His Burst Skill, despite all the great boons it provides, is rarely worth using versus his Skill 2. This is especially true when playing alongside debuffers with short duration effects, because he can consume them. Avoid this skill unless you know what you are doing.
- His Skill 2 can be cleverly used to increase the P.Atk of allies other than his main damage dealer. This can serve many uses, but most notably for redirecting the effects from items that target the highest P.Atk ally in the team onto certain characters, or to redirect enemy attacks that automatically target the highest P.Atk ally in the team towards an ally of your choice, normally a Defender.
- Yes, he can cast his buffs on himself, making him a pretty solid damage dealer with his Burst Skill. (See Video #2)
