Geron is a swiss army knife capable of fulfilling almost any role in a team, from a pure solo tank, to party protection, main damage dealer, debuffer or even as a psudeo breaker.

The Dress-Up Outing! is his most fitting pick for the tanking and team protection role, with solid defensive stats and HP, and a great effect that can increase his already large damage reduction buffs on his Skill 2 to insane amounts.

His damage dealer role can use a lot of things, with the best one being A Page in Friendship, massively boosting his P.Atk and damage of his Burst skill. Crossing Martial Paths is also powerful, drastically boosting his P.Atk stat and permanently increasing his skill damage after being attacked. This effect is capped, however, and the defensive stats are very low so it comes with a dangerous trade-off. Other alternatives include Dancing with SwordsShoot for the Sky and What I’m Striving For.

His very high Speed also makes him a great candidate to equip him with Feathers Fly on a Festive Day to help his team generate more item gauge.

If you want him to fulfill a more supportive role on the offensive instead, memorias like Budding Girl without a Name or Our Masterpiece will add a moderate skill damage buff that he can share with his allies and boost with appropriate traits. But buffing is not the only way he has to increase his allies damage. Debuffing enemies resistances or increasing the damage they take with his AoE attacks is another way of doing so, with memorias like Playing into Her HandSprinkling Magic from the Sky or The Scion of Arland. Just be mindful of their respective conditions and what type of team he is assisting.

Yes, he can use Stun based memorias too and actually become a pretty strong pseudo breaker with his way above average stun potencies and memorias like My Partner.

Finally, a decent Free memoria is A Story Woven in Red and White for the damage dealing role, matching his low HP conditions and with a decent P.Atk but low defensive stats.

Serene Envoy’s Blade

While equipped to a Defender, reduces damage received from single-target attacks by 5 ~ 7%.

Used only in the tank role. Heavy mitigation that is active at all times but only works against single-target attacks. This is often enough considering AoE damage is balanced around non-defenders, so these attacks do minor damage to them. Solid, cheap and accessible item that can be shared among all Defenders.

Stylish Broom

Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.

The best weapon in the team protection role. Best used in heavy AoE fights, to boost the potency of his damage reduction effects and protect allies at expenses of his own survivability.

Ténèbres Energy

While equipped to a Defender with Slash affinity, boosts skill damage by 9~12%.

Used only in damage dealing role. His strongest weapon for damage, with high P.Atk and an applicable bonus effect.

Moonlit Twin Stars

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by 9 ~ 12%. If equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by an additional 2 ~ 3%.

Used only in the debuffing role. Debuff oriented item, boosting the potency of effects from other gear pieces or memorias. Only really usable if equipped with highly ranked memorias like Playing into Her Hand, and matched with gear pieces like Radiant Coronet, or its effect will be too negligible.

Edelweiss

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after using a skill, boosts all allies’ skill damage by 1 ~ 2% and stun damage by 1 ~ 2% for 1 turn.

Used only in the buffing role. Adds a small buff to his kit after every skill. The first buff is affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait, but the second one is not.
Best matched with buffing memorias.

Pointed Iron Staff

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, when attack target is stunned, boosts the skill damage of the ally with the highest P. ATK by 13 ~ 19% for 1 turn.

Only used in the breaking role. The least useful option in his kit but still a viable choice. Use purely stun related traits to get the most out of this.

Mugitus Plate

While equipped to a Defender , while own HP is 50% or below, reduces own damage received by 6 ~ 8%.

Only used in the tank role. Massive damage reduction effect for himself, active only while HP is equal or below half. It will help him power up the effect of his buffs by allowing him to go below a certain threshold and becoming tankier in the process. He wants to get hit and get low, but not TOO low.

Herbal Shirt

When hit by an attack, restores 2 ~ 3% of max HP.

Another tank oriented armor, oriented towards helping him sustain his HP passively, keeping it at certain levels without going too low. Against certain enemies it could help receive moderate damage and immediately heal it back, maintaining a certain HP level. This heal will also be affected by recovery traits such as Recovery Boost [D], making it much stronger, and will be active from the start of the fight, not needing any action and not having any duration.

Skuller Coat

Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.

The best weapon in the team protection role. Best used in heavy AoE fights to boost the potency of his damage reduction effects and protect allies at expenses of his own survivability.

Layered Velvet – Slash

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts potency of buff effects received by 13 ~ 18%.

Best in slot armor piece when played as a damage dealer. It adds up to a ton of offensive and defensive benefits when played with buffs from allies and battle items.

Radiant Plate

Boosts potency of negative effects inflicted by 6 ~ 8%.

Debuff oriented armor, enhancing the potency of all his negative effects from gear pieces like Radiant Coronet or memorias like Playing into Her Hand. Preferred to be used when assisting other characters instead of dealing damage himself.

Charade Lumont

Boosts stun damage by 8 ~ 11% on attacks that hit all enemies.

To be used as a breaker. This armor provides a moderate stun damage boost to all his AoE attacks.

Chronicle Mark – Slash

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, reduces damage received by 4 ~ 5%.

A self mitigation alternative oriented to boost his own survivability.
It is unlocked very early, and it is very cheap and easy to make so it is a solid entry level item to get.

Serene Envoy’s Boots

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after attacking, reduces target’s damage by 3 ~ 4% for 1 turn.

Used exclusively in the team protection role. This very unique gear piece will apply an extra debuff on all enemies hit by Geron’s Skills that will reduce the damage they deal with all their attacks. It can be stacked too due to he his high Speed, and can become very strong when applied over multiple enemies.

Radiant Coronet

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, after attacking, boosts enemy’s physical damage received by 5 ~ 6% for 2 attacks.

Exclusively for the offensive debuffer role. Intended to assist all kind of physical teams, this item applies an extra layer of increased physical damage taken with all his attacks. This effect can be boosted by increases to the potency of negative effects and, more surprisingly, by the Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait too. Due to his high Speed and AoE attacks, this item is great.

Shadow Walkers

Boosts all allies physical attack damage by 1 ~ 2%.

To be used exclusively as a buffer. While it is just a small buff valid only for physical teams, it is better than nothing. It also has high HP and Speed stats.

Greed Ring

While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts stun damage of attacks that target all enemies by 13 ~ 18%.

Exclusively used as a pseudo-breaker. It provides a massive boost to the stun damage of all his AoE skills and a large increase to his Speed stat.
He has way above average stun values in his skills so this works surprisingly well.

Main Traits

  • As mentioned already, Geron can be played in multiple roles. That opens his trait options a ton, but try not to mix them, it never goes well.
  • As a tank, Physical and Magic Resistance traits are good enough. Full HP versions tend to be inferior as he will regularly drop below this level by his own action. Recovery traits are also inferior as his only form of recovery will top him off anyway.
  • As a damage dealer, Burst Skill Power Up is his most desired main trait, but regular Skill Power Up traits are also good enough. Do not overdo it, as we want to save at least 2 trait slots for Critical Damage Up in the secondary’s.
  • The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is best used when playing as a buffer, with matching memoria effects and gear pieces like Shadow Walkers and Edelweiss.
  • The Enhanced P./M. Resistance Down trait is used exclusively as a debuffer, and only when equipped with Radiant Coronet. Completely useless otherwise.
  • As a breaker, only Physical Stun Damage Boost trait is relevant. Conditional alternatives could work against enemies weak to Slash or using exclusively his Skill 2, but this will reduce his versatility.

Situational Traits

  • As a damage dealer, the ideal secondary trait. Get maximum 2 of these alongside regular Skill Power based traits.
  • Geron’s kit might not be flashy or “meta”, but it’s honestly quite incredible. He can do everything you want him to do, from a regular tanking role, to team protector, damage dealer, buffer, debuffer or even a breaker depending on how you gear him up.
  • Speaking of that, he has an absurd amount of options for just that. You just need to pick, but never mix and match. Trying to do too much stuff at once will not go well most of the times.
  • Exception to that is damage dealer and tanking roles which can be played together. His Skill 1 will let him tank any attack unscathed, even from the strongest enemy, allowing him to take hits and setup his own damage at the same time.
  • His damage potencies are out of this world. Up to 392% AoE on Skill 2 and up to 1000% AoE Burst attack are damage potencies even the strongest Attackers only dream with having. Some of the strongest AoE attacks in the game only reach numbers like 450 or 500%, and even powerful Single Target bursts reach less than that.
  • His Stun potencies are also way above average, near as strong as those from AoE dedicated Breakers.
  • His Skill 1 can be an absurd cheat code in all types of Affinity Towers. Tanking any opening hit no matter how strong and buying enough time for his time to setup and act. Because it’s in a low wait time Skill, and because he is so fast, he can even just use this skill permanently and become immortal.
  • Let’s talk about his team protection. 30% to 50% damage reduction for all allies, for up to 3 hits???? Boostable further by buff potency effects?? Absolutely ridiculous. Other team protectors can’t even reach half these values or durations.
  • He can also increase all allies’ resistance to all status effects.
  • All his effect are enhanced the lowest his current HP is. Sustaining these values can be tough but, unlike similar character like Vayne, he actually has tools to facilitate this state out of danger and even recover back to full in a pinch by using his Burst, while removing all negative effects at the same time.
  • His passives are not to be ignored. 30% extra P.Def and M.Def for free makes him one of the bulkiest defenders in the roster.
  • His full name is actually Geron Diezel. He is fast and furious, and also puts family first.
