Judie is a very unique Defender specialized in absorbing powerful hits in unconventional ways, by completely dodging the attacks or debuffing the damage enemies deal, instead of reducing the damage with defense stats and buffs on herself. This opens her up to use more offensive memorias without sacrificing defensive power.
Ideal choices for this matter are Budding Girl without a Name, Our Masterpiece and To the Academy of Dreams!, each of them with different stats and accessibility. These 3 memorias don’t provide as many defensive stats but as explained before, this rarely matters
Of course, for when it matters, she has the option to equip Those Who Weave History, an underused and quite accessible memoria with great defensive stats and strong healing boosting effect for Judie alone. This extra healing potency will help her sustain Full HP conditional traits, or buy enough time to reactivate her Evasion again.
Her low Speed and slow start cannot be dealt with in normal situations so that’s out of the question. Because of this, equipping her with active item generation memorias is ineffective, but passive ones like Nothing to Fear with Friends work great, kickstarting fast battle item sequences without needing to even act.
Lastly, the Two Bombshells memoria, while it seemingly has a great effect for her, it actually doesn’t (most of the times anyway). This memoria requires the holder to be hit by attacks to trigger the effect, and evading these attacks will not trigger anything, eliminating its purpose. It’s still nominated here as a last option because against multiple enemies this is still good, and potentially the best option.
Mythical Beast Sword
While equipped to a Defender with Fire affinity, reduces damage received by 5 ~ 6%.
Flat damage cut to all damage, at all times. It has no conditions and is the most ideal defensive pick in most situations.
Past State Dream
When equipping to a Defender with Fire affinity,, boosts all allies’ magic skill damage by 4 ~ 5%.
The top offensive weapon in her list, only working with magic teams. The effect can be boosted by Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait and it’s better used when survivability is well covered by her evasion and she does not need great mitigation.
The effect is passive and active at all times, even if Judie dies.
Serene Envoy’s Blade
While equipped to a Defender, reduces damage received from single-target attacks by 5 ~ 7%.
Heavy mitigation that is active at all times but only works against single-target attacks. This is often enough considering AoE damage is balanced around non-defenders, so these attacks do minor damage to them. Solid, cheap and accessible item that can be shared among all Defenders.
Fortune’s Light
Reduces damage received by 5 ~ 6% when own HP is at 70% or higher.
Exact same bonus as Mythical Beast Sword, but with a HP condition attached. There is no reason to use this over the sword, but it is much more accessible early in the game so this will work fine in the meantime.
Royalty Robe
While equipped to a Defender with Fire affinity, reduces own damage received by 10 ~ 14% when at full HP.
Extremely powerful armor that will significantly reduce the damage of any hit received when she is at full HP. Combined with her evasion gimmick and some form of team healing, she can easily sustain this effect when played correctly.
It works incredibly well against fewer but stronger enemies, but underperforms against multiple, weaker ones.
Blaze Dress
When equipped to a character with Fire affinity, after using a skill, restores own HP by 4 ~ 5%.
Decent self healing armor that can help sustain Full HP traits if no other form of healing is in the team. It plays well with memorias like Those Who Weave History.
Hero’s Armor
When using magic skills, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by 6 ~ 9%.
Normally offensive oriented, on Judie it turns defensive, empowering the potency of her damage reduction debuffs.
Skuller Coat
Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.
When survivability is not an issue and she can handle attacks with evasion, then this armor will slightly enhance the effect from her memoria and any other buffing gear equipped. It will be buff her passive damage reduction too, although marginally.
Phoenix Bracelet
While equipped to a Defender with Fire affinity, boosts all allies’ magic attack skill damage by 4 ~ 5%.
Offensive oriented accessory, with an extra buff for her magic allies. This effect is active at all times and doesn’t need her to act, which is good considering this item also gives no Speed.
It provides a massive HP boost.
Wings to the Stars
While equipped to a Defender, boosts potency of inflicted negative effects by 7 ~ 10%.
On Judie, this item is intended to increase team-wide mitigation, by making her damage reducing debuffs stronger. It also has solid Speed and HP.
Fire Spirit Ring
While equipped to a character with Fire affinity, reduces damage received by 4 ~ 5%.
Quite strong mitigation oriented item, with no special conditions, active at all times. It’s a solid entry level item and well into the end game too for pure damage reduction, and provides a decently high Speed stat.
Cheap and accessible early in the game.
Angel Ribbon
Reduces damage received by 5 ~ 6% when own HP is at 70% or higher.
Extremely solid accessory that matches greatly with her self sustaining kit. This is one of the earliest items you can unlock in the game. It’s extremely cheap and serviceable too. Highly recommended for beginners.
Main Traits
- Full HP Resistance traits are extremely powerful when combined with Judie’s Evasion tricks and team healing. This is known as Evasion chaining, meaning Judie will evade the first hit, get hit by the second, reactivate evasion, get healed back to full, and start all over. When done correctly, she can absorb ridiculous amounts of single target damage without even flinching.
Situational Traits
- Her second trait slot is open for a lot options. Let’s check them out:
- Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is her ideal trait to boost the power of buffing memorias or gear pieces. This serves well in most content that’s not super aggressive, and can combo with any of the main traits.
- Regular Magic Resistance Up and Physical Resistance Up traits are also very strong, accessible and unconditional. Perfectible viable options.
- Judie is the oldest 3 stars Defender in the game. By now, most people would consider a character like this outdated and weak, but Judie refuses to become irrelevant. With unique team mitigation in the form of debuffs, consistent evasion procs on herself, and one of the strongest defensive Leader Skills, you cannot help yourself coming back to her when fights become troublesome or dangerous.
- The Evasion effect is categorized as a buff and, as such, it can be increased or reduced in potency by such modifiers. It is entirely possible to reduce Judie’s 100% Evasion chance to a fraction of it, making her gimmick worthless, for example in certain floors of Affinity Towers with field effects reducing potencies of all buffs.
- The Evasion stack granted by her Leader Skill is an exception. While this effect is still categorized as a buff, this one triggers at the very start of the battle, before any field effect or enemy debuff, so it cannot be reduced or increased by any means. It is a guaranteed dodged attack.
- While Burst Skills cast by characters will always bypass Evasion stacks on enemies, this is not the case the other way around. Enemy Bursts can be dodged this way.
- With the previous concept in mind, intentionally feeding Burst panels to enemies to turn AoE attacks into Single Target attacks that Judie can dodge is an amazing strategy.
- The debuffs on her Skill 1 and Burst directly reduce the damage the enemy attacks deal, instead of more regular Defender mitigation that reduces the damage allies’ take. Both things can coexist with each other for maximum mitigation.
- The above mentioned debuffs last for a set amount of turns, not attacks. Judie can stack these effects multiple times, potentially even reducing the damage of these attacks to 0.
- The 275 wait time on her Skill 2 guarantees she will always act last in the initial turn order, even after all enemies. This is intended as a way to balance the crazy possibilities of guaranteed Evasion at the start of the fight, to prevent her from cheesing too many core gimmicks in the game (but then they gave her this Leader Skill and allowed it anyway).
