Status Effect Immunity
Lydie is a hybrid buffer/defender character, prominent in both aspects and with a high base Speed stat. Buffing memorias like Budding Girl without a Name or Our Masterpiece will exalt that specific role, especially when matches with appropriate trait, and without impact her turn order much relative to most damage dealer. These memorias do not differ much from each other in terms of stats, so pick the one that you have ranked up the most.
Another useful memoria in this same role is To the Academy of Dreams!, a free memoria with a decently strong effect but reduced Speed and defensive stats.
In more defensive options, Dress-Up Outing! is the best alternative for boosting Lydie’s strong damage reduction shield granted by her Skill 2. This can turn her 38% base shield into a 55% damage reduction or more. With the ability to target this effect on any ally, including herself, there ar every few things in the game that can get pass it, making the perfect choice for protecting squishier allies against heavy attacks.
As a pure defensive memoria, only against heavy strike enemies or counterattackers like Golems or Weasels, the When Dolls Dream memoria will provide high physical defensive stats and HP, on top of a flat chance to completely evade the attack. This evasion can be extremely handy to chain with her own, and it’s perfect to cheese content where she could not survive for long otherwise, like in affinity towers that are not Strike.
Lastly, the Feathers Fly on a Festive Day is a low Speed, low defenses memoria with the ability to generate additional item gauge on own turn. This will match greatly with Lydie’s Skill 1 effect and fast Speed, making her perhaps one of the best user of this memoria in the entire game.
Starker Wille
While equipped to a Defender with Strike affinity, reduces own damage received by 5 ~ 7%.
Powerful and unconditional damage reduction passive for herself. It’s very strong and one of the most desirable choices for tanking.
Forest Bell
While equipped to a character with Strike affinity, boosts potency of buff effects given by 9 ~ 12%.
Buff potency effects will affect the damage reduction buff from her Skill 2, and her skill damage buff as well. For offensive purposes, and to protect specific allies, this weapon is a good trade in exchange for her own tankiness.
Flourish Heart
While equipped to a Defender, after using a skill, restores 3 ~ 4% of own HP.
This weapon will boost Lydie’s self sustain, adding a healing effect to all her casts. It’s best used when paired with her Evasion triggers to help recover any damage taken in between them.
Metal Stirrer
While equipped to a Defender with Strike affinity, after using a skill, reduces all allies’ damage received by 1 ~ 2% for 1 attack.
Instead of protecting a single ally with Forest Bell, this alternatives adds extra mitigation to all allies instead. It matches well when using her Skill 1 to stack the effect more times if needed.
Herbal Poncho
While equipped to a Defender with Strike affinity, reduces damage received from single-target attacks by 7 ~ 10%.
Massive damage reduction effect for herself, working only against single-target attacks. We’ve discussed before how damage from AoE attacks tends to be quite insignificant for Defenders, since this type of damage is balanced around being survivable by non Defenders. with this in mind, single target damage is all Lydie needs to protect herself against, making this bonus a terrific choice.
Phantom Leather Mail
While equipped to a character with Strike affinity, when hit by an attack, restores own HP by 4 ~ 5%.
Another self sustain oriented item. It is good at keep Lydie’s HP healthy against many weaker enemies, but against hard hitting bosses this doesn’t work great. This item needs Lydie to be hit to trigger the heal, something we prefer to avoid with her strong Evasion procs.
Skuller Coat
Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.
A hybrid of offensive and defensive armor piece, boosting both the potency of her skill damage buff and her targeted damage reduction buff. It’s great protect specific allies while increasing their damage at the same time.
Battle Amulet
While equipped to a Defender with Strike affinity, reduces damage received by 8 ~ 11%.
Absurdly powerful self mitigation item, the highest in her arsenal. It has no conditions and a massive HP stat, but no Speed. Luckily, Lydie is fast enough to work just fine even with that small penalty.
Chronicle Mark – Strike
While equipped to a character with Strike affinity, reduces damage received by 4 ~ 5%.
Being much weaker on the defensive, this is a self mitigation alternative with at least some Speed stat in it, if she needs it.
It is unlocked very early, and it is very cheap and easy to make so it is a solid entry level item to get.
Shadow Walkers
Boosts all allies physical attack damage by 1 ~ 2%.
The only purely offensive accessory at her disposal. While it is just a small buff valid for physical teams, it’s better than nothing.
Main Traits
- Despite being primarily a Defender, Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is her most important trait when assisting attackers, boosting the potency of her own base buff and any other similar gear equipped.
Always look to have these traits at rank V, as even a rank IV is a massive loss. - Recovery Boost [D] is another powerful trait, massively boosting the potency of her Skill 1 heal and other gear pieces. Self sustain works great to recover health in between Evasion procs.
Situational Traits
- For extra mitigation, the Magic Resistance Up [Full] and Physical Resistance Up [Full] traits are insanely strong when matched with her own Skill 2 buff and powerful gearing options, getting quite close to full damage immunity with the right gear, memoria combinations and against enemies of that specific type.
- Lydie excels at protecting allies. Her Skill 2 will seriously reduce the damage taken by one of them by a single ally making enemy counterattacks or aimed attacks that will bypass her natural aggression much more manageable.
- While her Skill 2’s damage reduction effect is targeted on a single ally, the skill damage part of the ability applies to all allies, so she can protect breakers and supporters without losing damage on attackers.
- Her Burst Skill will apply a 1 time full damage protection to all allies, but only against AoE attacks (attack that hit all allies). Any of these attacks, no matter how much they naturally deal, will deal 0 damage. It will not protect against aimed single target attacks, on the other hand.
- Despite the above, after casting her Burst, Lydie will indeed be able to block any attack at all, including single target hits.
- Evasion will preserve the buff mentioned above, meaning she can Evade an attack and then immediately block the next one. This chain of effects can make her seriously unkillable.
- Teams with Lydie will benefit greatly from fast charging item gauge, not only for the benefit from they provide but also for fast and quick Evasion procs on her. This is Lydie’s prefer method of tanking. Evade strong attacks, protect herself with Burst, heal any damage taken with her Skill 1, repeat.
- Thanks to these incredible aptitudes, she actually does not need that many defensive gears and team mitigation or healing. She can be built as a fully supportive character and still stay healthier than traditional defenders.
- All of the above make her perhaps the most valuable defender, and possibly the most valuable character at all, to participate in almost all floors of affinity towers, even those that will penalize her stats. She can cheese a great amount of stages up to Floor 30 of all 7 towers, by virtue of evading and blocking attacks, buying crucial time for her allies.
- The non-disruptive nature of her Skill 2 is another massive boon to her kit, allowing her to participate without removing valuable debuffs on enemies.
- All her effects are categorized buffs, which means they can be increased and reduced by such effects. This makes her vastly more unreliable in stages with strong penalties to buff potencies, and completely broken in ones that boost them.
- She is also immune to all status effects, guaranteeing she will never even flinch against those annoying Poison and Burn effects that often ruin the lives of many defenders.
- In content with multiple waves, her buffs will remain from one wave to another. This allows Lydie to cast her Burst Skill in one wave, preventing any quick damage dealt by enemies in the next one. This trivializes many gimmicky Floor 30 stages of all towers (see Video #1), and is very handy in Item Wars.
- Her Burst Skill effect is great to enable off-affinity characters to play safely. For example, she can enable Klaudia: Fragrant Elegance to play in all 4 magic affinity towers to contribute massive damage boosts, something that would normally be impossible due to the great penalty to her survivability that regularly results in her instantly dying to any attack. This apply to a great number of characters, so Lydie can expand your available strategies a lot. (see Video #1)
- She is the only character with the Recovery Boost [D] synthesis gift, which makes her mandatory to create gear with 2x of these, or to match this trait with other rare traits like Full HP Resistances much more easily.
