Ruven is a pure damage dealer focused entirely on dealing with single enemies, so only these type of memorias apply.
By far the strongest choice is A Page in Friendship, massively boosting his burst skill damage and providing high P.Atk stat. The Promise of a Return is another choice very slightly weaker, providing him critical damage instead but a much lower P.Atk stat. This memoria has the advantage of being able to use the Enhance Damage Buff [A] trait instead of Critical Damage Up.
Other more traditional and easier to acquire memorias are Shoot for the Sky, Shippy, Set Sail!, and Lazy Afternoon, the latter only working against enemies weak to Slash, and Silver Snow Delight having the strong boost among these 4 but with a stun condition attached which is less than ideal and only applicable in some settings.
A decent low rarity option is What I’m Striving For which will offer a moderate balance of stats and effect and is very easy to get early in the game.
Crystal Rod
While equipped to an Attacker, boosts potency of buff effects received by 11 ~ 15%.
Despite having a lower base P.Atk stat than other weapons, the sheer amount of extra buff values you can gain from all team members, battle items and all effects combined thanks to its effect will vastly outperform the margin.
Regardless, always consider what team you are playing, what battle items you are using and how much you are actually getting from this increase before picking it.
Abschneiden
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, after attacking, boosts own single-target attack skill damage by 4 ~ 5% 4 times for 1 turn.
Another very solid weapon also generally weaker Crystal Rod in most cases but affecting all his skill instead. The main difference is that this weapon will require at least one turn to enter in effect and give any boost, but it will be marginally better than Blade Knuckle afterwards.
Blade Knuckle
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 13 ~ 18%.
His third strongest weapon. It tends to be weaker than Crystal Rod in most cases and it affects only his Burst Skill.
Klinge Mähne
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts skill damage by 9 ~ 12%.
Placeholder weapon. Very cheap and easy to unlock is a great early game alternative but it will be quickly outdated by others.
Layered Velvet – Slash
While equipped to a character with Slash affinity, boosts potency of buff effects received by 13 ~ 18%.
Best in slot armor piece in almost every situation. Buff potencies are op.
Very cheap and easy to unlock so there is quite literally no reason not to use this.
Origin Necklace: Slash
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 17 ~ 25%.
His strongest pure damage option, affecting only his Burst Skill. Normally all he really cares about.
Idaten‘s Boots
While equipped to an Attacker with Slash affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 13 ~ 18%.
Weaker version of the Origin Necklace: Slash‘s same boost, but this time on a +12 Speed accessory. Sometimes worth the trade off.
Fancy Ring
While equipped to an Attacker with 70% or higher HP, after attacking, boosts own skill damage by 11 ~ 16% for 1 turn.
Strong choice when using more than his Burst to deal damage. His Skill 2 is strong enough to deal with weaker enemies and this can help him accomplish that. Just be mindful of the HP condition.
Main Traits
- Burst Skill Power Up is your desired main trait. With his Burst Skill being his main source of damage, powering this up as much as we can is the right call. Getting 3x of these is best.
Situational Traits
- His second trait slot depends primarily on his memoria chosen:
- If equipped with any skill damage boosting memoria, we will build Critical Damage Up trait in 2x slots to balance out the excess. It is possible not to use any of this and only rely on teammates for this type of buff, but there will be a relatively major damage loss due to the imbalance.
- The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait will be the chosen trait if we end up using Promise of a Return, but always keep in mind how highly ranked up it is. If rank 4 or higher, this trait is better.
- Additional Skill Power Up or similar traits are acceptable on him.
- He is a low rarity unit that’s easily acquirable but don’t be fooled; he is a damage machine against single enemies, especially with his Burst Skill, packing up a very powerful potency and high base P.Atk.
- His power drastically drops in presence of more than 1 enemy but he is far from useless still. It’s perfectly possible for him to finish off enemy adds 1 by 1 and finish off a boss with a Burst after.
- Owner of the only Skill Power Up synthesis gift among all free and low rarity characters, usable from the start of the game until the very end. Part of strong synthesis combos too so I personally suggest every new player (or any person who hasn’t done it yet) to put him in your Daily Pieces Quest team and max out his awakening stars as soon as possible. Your gear strength will thank you.
