The Promise of a Return memoria is Ryza’s ultimate choice. With the highest M.Atk stat and up to a ridiculous 100% critical damage, if you can get your hands on this beauty, you are set. Just keep in mind this memoria will drastically lower her Speed stat, which most often than not is a good thing on Attackers, especially in Roman’s Tournament. An alternative to deal with this issue is Core of Companionship, with slightly lower M.Atk and critical damage, but higher Speed. Any of these memorias, at a high enough rank (usually rank 4+) will enable Ryza to use Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait in her gear. More of this to be explained in the trait section.
Among the newest additions, Happy Birthday! is the strongest skill damage based memoria for Fire affinity, with the sole condition of hitting a weakness. Using this will most likely require you to add 2x Critical Damage Up traits to your gear.
More budget alternatives include the The Changing Scenery and Time Just for Two memorias, which are obtainable in the regular FES pool. These memorias are strong and highly functional, but will require to build Critical Damage Up traits on her gear to compensate as well.
For starters or players with no access to anything of the above, always prioritize equipping a 31.25% M.Atk memoria regardless of its effect. If you still don’t have any of these, the SR rarity Following in Your Footsteps memoria is a great starting option. with moderately high M.Atk and a small boost to magic skill damage.
Crystal Rod
While equipped to an Attacker, boosts potency of buff effects received by 11 ~ 15%.
Despite having a lower base M.Atk stat than other weapons, the sheer amount of extra buffs you can gain from all team members, battle items and all effects combined thanks to its effect will vastly outperform them.
Regardless, always consider what team you are playing, what battle items you are using and how much you are actually getting from this increase. If you are not playing around buffs, then the Tome of Answers: Fire could be better.
Tome of Answers: Fire
While equipped to an Attacker with Fire affinity, boosts single-target attack skill damage by 15 ~ 21%.
Big boost to M.Atk and skill damage affecting all of Ryza’s skill. This weapon is very strong, but now outclassed by Crystal Rod in almost every scenario. If you don’t have access to it though, this is your weapon.
Fortune Staff
While equipped to an Attacker, boosts critical damage of single-target attacks by 17 ~ 24%.
This weapon is a slightly weaker alternative, with lower M.Atk than the tome but swapping the skill damage boost for critical damage instead. It’s a pretty ok option if you can’t get Critical Damage Up traits, coming very close in power as consequence of it. Obviously, this relies on you dealing critical hits to begin with.
Elemental Breath – Fire
While equipped to an Attacker with Fire affinity, boosts skill damage by 9 ~ 12%.
This is a basic but very strong weapon unlocked fairly early in the game. It has no conditions other than being a Fire Attacker, therefore it can be shared later on with similar characters. The effect is moderate and the weapon has a standard 20 ~ 45 M.Atk, so it’s really just an entry level piece that holds well into middle stages of the game and works perfect to clear Fire Tower.
Wanderer’s Clothes
While equipped to an Attacker with Fire affinity, boosts potency of received buff effects by 16 ~ 23%.
Hands down the strongest piece of gear Ryza can wear. This armor will not only boost her own self buffs but everything she receives, from battle item buffs, memoria effects, other gear effects, party members’ buffs, passives, everything. It’s also quite cheap to make and unlocked relatively early in the game, so there is no reason not to use one.
Silver Thread Armor
Boosts potency of buff effects received by 9 ~ 12%.
A direct downgrade from Wanderer’s Clothes. It’s much weaker and much, much harder to craft because it’s an Extra category recipe. Aside from that one armor, it’s still stronger than anything else she can equip, which is a testament to the power of increases to buffs received.
If you happened to have this armor from a different character and don’t have a Wanderer’s Clothes, use it.
Light Vest
While equipped to an Attacker or Breaker, boosts M. ATK by 6 ~ 8%.
Stat boosts are much stronger than skill damage or critical boosts, but they have fallen slightly out of favor because of buff potency pieces. This is still a solid piece of gear, but use it as a last alternative only.
Flame Hairpin
While equipped to an Attacker with Fire affinity, boosts potency of received buff effects by 16 ~ 23%.
This accessory works exactly as the Wanderer’s Clothes, with all its conditions and pros. For the same reasons too, this is the strongest piece of equipment she can wear in this gear slot.
Soul Binder
While equipped to an Attacker with Fire affinity, boosts single-target attack skill damage by 13 ~ 18%.
Pretty self explanatory. Big boost to the skill damage of all of Ryza’s skills, but still much weaker than Flame Hairpin in almost all situations. This accessory has a higher than average Speed stat which can come in handy for her in some situations.
Origin Necklace – Fire
While equipped to an Attacker with Fire affinity, boosts burst skill damage by 17 ~ 25%.
This necklace has the potential to be much stronger than the Soul Binder, but it only impacts her Burst Skill. If you are going to play around this skill alone, this item is better.
It has lower Speed than the other items, it’s more expensive to craft and harder to unlock, and of course, it’s weaker than Flame Hairpin either way.
Main Traits
- Skill Power Up and Single Attack Power Up traits are essentially the exact same for Ryza, since she only has single target attacks. Skill Power Up is much easier to build alongside secondary traits or with itself.
- Ideally you should get at at least 4 of these traits across her 6 trait slots, for a total of 100% Skill Power. Going above this will reduce the effective value of the trait, but going below will be a much more drastic drop in damage. In general, you almost never want less than 100%.
Situational Traits
- Her second trait slot is where things become more specific so pick with care.
- The Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait is perhaps her strongest choice, but this is ONLY if you have access to a high ranked critical damage memoria like Promise of a Return or Core of Companionship. 2x of this trait will double the critical damage given by this memoria and the skill damage buffs given by her own kit and any similar piece of gear she has. If you dont have this memoria or not at a high enough rank, this trait is not worth using.
- Critical Damage Up is the most basic and most functional secondary trait to build. It works great in any conditions and doesn’t require much min maxing or thoughts. You only want a maximum of 2x of these.
- The Burst Skill Power Up trait is a stronger version of Skill Power Up that only affects her Burst Skill. There are situations where you only want to use this skill for maximum damage, but they require a lot of setup. You can currently combine this trait with Enhanced Damage Buff [A] for maximum burst output, but always remember this combination will tank the damage of her other skills. You can also combine regular Skill Power Up with Burst Skill Power Up in detriment of critical damage, but this is still very strong if playing alongside characters like Flocke: Angel of Rose, to boost the party’s critical damage.
- Both her Skill 2 and Burst Skill deal ridiculous damage so she remains relevant for any Fire weak content and even neutral ones. As such, she is perhaps one of strongest early-mid game characters to use.
- All her selfbuffs, including her passive, are capped. This means they cannot go over the MAX amount stated in the tooltips, and cannot be bypassed by effects or traits. With this in mind, the Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait and buff potency gear pieces only serve the purpose of accelerating the rate at which she can stack these buffs fully, meaning instead of having to cast, for example, her Skill 1 five times to cap its buff, she might only need to do it twice. This is stronger than it sounds, as it makes ramping up damage much much faster.
- You can combo her with her own Air version Ryza: Blooming Energy to gain access to the Initiative effect.
- She gains great survivability when played alongside Judie: Hero of Tempest, as she obtains a guaranteed Evasion stack at the start of the battle thanks to her Spirited tag and Judie’s Leader Skill. This trivializes many things in the game, including enemies with high Speed and nasty debuffing opening attacks.
