Sophie is one of the fastest supporters in the game, and one of the fastest characters at all. This opens up her builds in multiple ways, emphasizing her fast actions to enable timelines in a specific way while disabling enemies, or opting for a slower approach playing passing the spotlight to other teammates.
For faster setups, the usual It’s Time to Study! and The True Feelings You Can’t See are the the only 2 choices. Equipping these will ensure Sophie gets to act before other similarly fast or even faster allies than her, like Heidi: Merciful Bride or Wilbell: Witch in the Dark, provide them with boost panels in their first turns. This will activate all their respective skills, generating additional buffs or, in the case of Heidi, generate extra item gauge that will help your team activate battle items quickly without relying on item gauge related memorias.
A slower approach is equally viable and sometimes even desirable, especially when you want to overwrite annoying negative or status effect panels from the timeline following up the enemies’ first turns, something that she cannot always do if she is too fast as these panels are not always visible from the start. Memorias for this role include the commonly used A Future Worth Fighting For and Our Masterpiece, and the far less common Serenity of a Summer Eve, a memoria that will truly shine when played alongside allies who can power up her own generated Boost panels.
Lastly, taking advantage of her high base Speed, she can also use more utility based memorias that will not impact her initial turn placement significantly. An example of this is Feathers Fly on a Festive Day, which can turn Sophie into an item gauge generating machine while disabling enemy panels at the same time, acting somewhat as a defensive character as well.
Angel Staff
While equipped to a Supporter, after using a skill, boosts all allies’ critical damage by 4 ~ 5% for 1 turn.
It might not look like it, but this Sophie’s most effective weapon in a lot of situations mainly thanks of her high Speed and Skill 1 allowing her to take a lot of turns in between damage dealer’s turns. In many of these fights she will take these fast-acting, semi-healer role, and this staff will be ideal for them.
This bonus is affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Class President’s Cane
While equipped to a Supporter, after using a skill, boosts burst skill damage of the next ally in turn order by 9 ~ 12% for 1 turn.
One of the strongest and most unique gear pieces but also one that can be difficult to use properly. This weapon is gives her the highest possible buff she can provide, but if used incorrectly this effect will do effectively nothing. It requires proper strategizing and understanding on the timeline to ensure the character taking advantage of this buff and her burst generation is your damage dealer. Recommended if you know what you are doing.
This bonus is affected by Enhanced Damage Buff [A].
Steel Staff
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts potency of buff effects given by 7 ~ 10%.
Sophie works much better with direct buffs added on her items over buff potency boosts, but if she is going to be dead or inactive during the fight, this is also a good alternative to use, passively boosting her passive skill and memoria/gear buffs given.
Yukata of Warmth
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts all allies’ magic attack skill damage by 2 ~ 3%.
This armor adds a permanent passive boost to the magic skill damage of all allies. While small, it can be boosted by Enhanced Damage Buff [A] trait and it’s the best choice to assist magic teams.
Carefree Swimsuit
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts potency of buff effects given by 7 ~ 10%.
Normally the right item to assist physical teams, but it’s also not that much weaker than Yukata of Warmth with magical ones. Pretty safe choice.
Skuller Coat
Boosts potency of buff effects given by 6 ~ 8%.
Directly outclassed by Carefree Swimsuit. Still one of the most serviceable items to get early in the game. This armor can be used by any character and it will last a long time, until you unlock any of the others.
Boss’s Mask
While equipped to a Supporter with Stab affinity, after using a skill, boosts all allies’ skill damage by 5 ~ 6% when own HP is 70% or higher for 1 turn.
Pretty substantial buff compared to similar options, and on a high Speed accessory too. The only catch is that the receivers of this buff need to be at a decently high level of HP or it will not have any effect.
It can be stacked multiple times.
Victory Charm
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts all allies’ physical attack skill damage by 2 ~ 3%.
Specifically to assist physical teams, adding a small but boostable boost to physical skill damage. It has a low Speed stat, but the effect is permanent and doesn’t need her to act.
Carefree Goggles
While equipped to a Supporter, boosts all allies’ magic attack skill damage by 2 ~ 3%.
For the opposite scenario, only to assist magic teams, this item provides a small effect boosted by Enhanced Damage Buff [A], and no Speed stat at all.
Main Traits
- Enhanced Damage Buff [A] is her most important trait when assisting attackers. This will affect her second passive skill and any buffing gear piece or memoria she has equipped.
Always look to have these 3x of these traits at rank V, as even a rank IV is a massive loss. - All Recovery Boost is highly recommended to have on her as well to close to double the healing done by her Skill 2. The base potency of her healing skill is quite low, so this is the preferred way to augment it that doesn’t require her using her Burst.
Situational Traits
Her second trait slot is normally very niche, but in case of needing it:
- The All-Target Attack Resistance Up trait will add extra AoE mitigation to protect her. this is not bad when using her in affinity towers that are not Fire.
- The Recovery Boost trait is an strictly worse version of All Recovery Boost for Sophie, but it’s better than nothing and it’s acceptable to have.
- Sophie is less of a traditional buffer and more like an enabler type supporter. Besides her passive skill, unlike many old and modern supporters, she does not have any buff to share.
- Her kit focuses primarily in the generation of 2 typos of panels, boost-type panels for allies, and protection-weaken panels on enemies. Both of these focus on increase the damage allies deal on enemies.
- Both types of panels will not be affected by any gear or trait Sophie has, as the effect come directly from the panels themselves.
- Panel effects can still be impacted by increases to positive or negative effects received, granted by gear or field effects.
- As of November 2024, Sophie is the only form of AoE damage in the entire Stab affinity that is not an Attacker role, and the only AoE Burst skill at all, which makes her the primary form of damage for Stab weak stages that penalize Attackers, like Floor 23 of Stab Tower.
- Sophie’s Boost panels can be converted to Boost+ panels by allies like Ryza: Blooming Energy going from 40% skill damage to 100%. Furthermore, allies like Klaudia: Fragrant Elegance can double that amount with her Burst Skill effect, to 80% for regular panel and 200% for Boost+ panels. After that, memorias like Serenity of a Summer Eve and Origin of Alchemists can multiply that amount by 1.4 and 1.96 times more, respectively. Boosts to buff effects received? Also multiply it. You get the idea. It is extremely absurd, especially considering you can trigger this TWICE with battle item uses.
- Regularly forgotten, Sophie’s passive also boosts all allies stun damage, and not by a small amount.
- Protection Weaken panels will apply to the entire enemy team if activated by an enemy, or to all allies if activated by an ally.
- Enemies inflicted with the Panel Disabled effect can still be affected by Protection Weaken effect IF the panel is activated by an enemy that’s not affected by Panel Disabled.
- The effect of Protection Weaken panels lasts indefinitely, until the target is hit once. You can stack these debuffs on enemies multiple times for a massive hit.
- Sophie has great synergy with Resna: Loved Rookie not only feeding her the effect of the panel itself, but also activating a bunch of her own effects that rely on these panels, including her passives, gear options, guaranteed critical hits and other skill effects. While they can play without each other and other alternatives exist, they really go well together.
- Making Sophie faster than Heidi: Merciful Bride will allow her to generate panels for her to activate her own passive skill, generating additional item gauge in the process. This is a powerful combo to allow the usage of battle items in turn 5 without the need for equipping item gauge related memorias, and to stack battle effects twice with a lot more ease.
- Her Synthesis Gift is extremely valuable and links both ways with the 2 most accessible and easy to get characters in this category, Ruven: Hot-Blooded Adventurer, and Corneria: No Milk No Life, making her ideal for free to play accounts to craft top tier gear early in the game.
